Broad Research Training in Physical Sciences

Beginning in Spring 2023, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is supporting the Sloan Sciences Program at Texas State University. We invite you to apply to be a Sloan Researcher!

This research training program is a new collaborative initiative between Texas State and the University of Colorado Boulder, and will provide research experiences, financial support, and professional development for Bobcats who want to pursue a Ph.D. in the physical sciences.

Each Sloan Researcher will join a research group that is led by faculty from both institutions, and carry out research year-round. During the academic year, they will perform research in San Marcos while taking their classes; in the summers, they will be fully supported for full-time research work. The summer before their junior year, they will stay in San Marcos and participate in research and professional development as part of the vibrant Texas State Summer REU programs; the summer before their senior year, they will travel to Boulder for a 10-week summer REU experience at CU. Throughout their appointment as a Sloan Researcher, they will work closely with both the Texas State and CU research teams on integrated, highly collaborative projects.

Benefits of being a Sloan Researcher

  • Cutting-edge physical sciences research as part of a collaborative team led by TxSt and CU research faculty
  • A $3000 stipend for research in each long semester (i.e., Spring and Fall semesters)
  • Fully-supported Summer Research Experiences
    • Summer before junior year: research at Texas State with $6000 stipend
    • Summer before senior year: research at CU in Boulder, CO (including housing, meal plan, and a $6000 stipend)
